Course Update
The great weather has helped the greenkeeping team get the course looking great and playing fast and true. As described last week recently refurbished fairway mower units means these surfaces are as good as they have ever been. Along with this important piece of machinery we now also have the blades of our greens mower re-ground to ensure that the cut is as accurate and true as it can be, literally to the millimetre.
A relatively recent addition to the greens mower is the brush you can see in the gallery which helps to stand the very fine grass up ready for a clean and accurate cut with the refurbished blades. To keep the bent grass seeded onto the greens in good health the greenkeeping team regularly spray them with a variety of treatments. This week molasses that help to feed microorganisms that live the in the bent grass plant were added. This promotes a stronger growth of the plant itself and helps prevent other matter such as mosses and diseases taking root. Another additive in the mix this week was a wetting agent. As the name suggest this is designed to ensure that water from irrigation is retained by the grass on the greens rather than running off or, evaporating too quickly from the putting greens.
As mentioned in last week’s update the relaying and preparation of areas for new paths is now underway. You may have seen the JCB telehandler around the course this week and as the conditions are favourable we have decided to keep the JCB here for another week so more good work with the astro can be completed in good time before the season ends. The plan to have a 15 hole loop with paths and route planner available for play throughout the year is looking achievable and a further, specific update on this will be sent before the end of the summer.
Have another great golfing week!
