Course Update

It was great to hear a lot of positive feedback from GC members and visitors following successful Open competitions recently. The team continue to work hard to present the course at its best every day while also making long term improvements such as additional paths which will make the course far more accessible in the winter months. In between the welcome rain work has been continuing on both maintenance and development the past week.

As you see from the gallery of images above the paths on 10th and from 17th to 18th have now been laid ready making them much easier to use for trollies and buggies. The plan is to lay the path running from 13th green to 17th tee next. This will leave us with just one or two other small sections left on the back 9 to complete the 15 hole loop ready for winter use.

As part of the continuing development work tree clearance is planned for the left hand side and rear of the 12th hole in late August and early September. This is part of an ongoing program to ensure the playing areas of holes are relatively unaffected by over hanging tree limbs. Also, to try and get as much light, air and moisture into the ground around areas that are currently shaded by trees. More details on this will be provided in future updates.

Finally, please be aware that course work is in the diary for Monday to Friday next week, 19th-24th August. The main part of the work will be the hollow tining and top dressing of the greens with 8mm wide tines that will once again aerate the surfaces as well as help to remove organic matter such as mosses etc. This really important work takes time do properly so please ensure you give greens staff priority when you see them on the course. To help the greens staff carry out their work as safely and efficiently as possible there will be a ‘flog’ positioned well short of the green whilst the hollow tining is being carried out. Please play to this when you see it, the ‘flog’ will usually be positioned on the fairway some 30-50 yards or so short of the green. This really helped the team when hollow tining and top dressing was carried out at the start of the season (pictured above) Your cooperation will be really appreciated again as it will mean the greens will be in great condition well into autumn after this process.
