Course Update
As described in last week’s update important greens maintenance work has been completed over the last few days. Thanks to the good weather the greenkeeping team have completed tasks that will help to keep our putting surfaces in great shape through the autumn and winter. As the gallery below shows there was a lot to the process on each and every green, plus the practice putting green and the green on the new short game area. The work was carried out in two stages:
- ‘Pencil tining’ each green with an 8mm wide tine that aerated the surface for oxygenation and better root health for the grass plants.
- Hollow coring to also aid aeration and control levels of organic matter in the putting surface
- Debris from the coring operation was then blown from the putting surface
- The cleared putting surface was then ‘verti-cut’ this is also intended to control organic matter levels
- Having tined, cored and verticut the greens they were then reseeded with the pure bent grass we use at the beginning of each season
- This was followed by top dressing each green with sand
- Finally each green was rolled to even the surface. Mowing will be at a slightly higher height for few days to allow the grass to take hold and gain strength before the cut is lowered again
Thank you to all those who played during the work and showed patience whilst the greens team were working. Patience may be required over the next few days as the putting greens recover but the work will provide dividends for months to come.
Next Thursday, 29th August, the 12th hole will be closed for play from 7.00-15..00. The reason for this is tree clearance work on the left hand side of the hole. The trees now encroach onto some golfers playing line and the trees closer to the green are affecting growth in that area. Again we thank you for your patience whilst this work is being carried out and we’ll update you on its progress in next week’s post.
Have a good golfing weekend.
