Course update
As the greens recover from the extensive works described in the last course update the greens team continue the regular top dressing program to speed up recovery and improve the quality of the putting surfaces. This time consuming process can sometimes go unnoticed as the sand works its way into the grass profiles and root zone. However, it is a crucial element of keeping the putting surfaces rolling true and in a condition that will enable them to cope with the change in weather conditions as autumn and winter approach. The video link below from the USGA is a very good guide as to the importance of top dressing putting surfaces.
USGA Guide on greens top dressing
Please watch the video and next time you see the greens staff out there spreading the sand across the putting surfaces you will know what a great benefit it brings to them. To ensure the greens stay well aerated through the winter months we have also arranged the regular hire of the pedestrian Toro Pro Core tining machine that worked so well for the greens staff last autumn/winter.
Hopefully many of you will have played in the last week and noticed the tree clearance work around the course has continued. The left side of the 12th hole down to adjacent with the left hand greenside bunker was cleared back extensively last week. This has opened the view of this side of the hols from the tee and will also allow more light and air to reach the areas that were often too shaded to grow properly. The tree clearance work will continue over a long period across many areas of the course. It is a sign of the long term commitment we have to the development of the course and it’s maintenance to the highest possible standards all year round.
