Course Update

Although this time last week we had experienced 15mm of rain in just a few hours the course has recovered really well with maintenance and development continuing over the last 7 days. A good example of the opportunity the current conditions creates for the greens team is to use the ‘Mole Plough’ as part of the very important secondary drainage program. As the gallery below shows the plough operates on the rear of our tractor and drops into the ground creating both a channel the helps to link existing primary drainage trenches as well as fracturing the top soil enabling water to move through to these channels.

The work sometimes leaves some ground markings but these will recover very quickly whilst the channels and other benefits created for drainage will last a lot longer. We are confident this work will help us keep the course in good condition through the winter months. You will also notice a roll in position ready to use as access to the new winter tee on the 10th.

Those of you playing this weekend will notice some winter tee mats will be back in play, and also the newly renovated first tee on the right hand side of the path. As pictured above, the path around 16th tee and to the winter and has had the new astro laid in the last few days and will be left in position for a few weeks as a trial. We hope it will keep the area tidy and make it easier for you to get to and from these areas during play.

Course maintenance tasks such as mowing with the Ventracs, ironing/rolling greens and a lot of ‘swishing’ for dew and worm cast clearance on greens and tees means the course is being presented as best it can be this Autumn. Work on the 2nd bunker renovation has also begun and we will provide a more detailed update on this in next week’s update.

Have a good golfing week.
